In the AI era, a polished tutoring website — testimonials included — takes an afternoon to generate. Seven years of reviews, each dated by Google since June 2020, can’t be backdated. I chose to build my record on the second kind: for ten years I have taught IB Math and Physics one-to-one — every lesson myself — and every result I publish carries its source: a document held on file, the student’s own Google review, or both. The weaker results stay on the page too.

Renzo Diaz is a private IB Math and Physics tutor who publishes the results he can prove, each with its source. He teaches the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) — IB Mathematics, Analysis and Approaches (AA) and Applications and Interpretation (AI), and IB Physics, at Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) — and Cambridge IGCSE, one-to-one since April 2016, online worldwide on Central European Time, in English or Spanish, every lesson himself.
His record: a final 7 in IB Physics SL, from a 3, in the first exams of the new syllabus (May 2025), and Grade 7 in both IB Math AI SL final exams (May 2024); 14 outcomes on his results page, 9 of them in students’ own Google reviews. Every documented IB result is a 6 or a 7. He names a student only when they have said yes and he holds the document.
His method comes from engineering: find the step where the reasoning breaks, rebuild the explanation, verify it on a new problem. Every lesson is recorded, with an AI-generated summary the family can read and a searchable archive.

I publish the grade the IB awarded, even when the student’s own review says higher. Blake’s review says he reached “7’s”. Those were his predicted grades. The IB awarded a 7 in Physics SL and a 6 in Math AI HL, and those are the grades this site counts. He went on to study at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

So the final IB grades on record in Mathematics are a 6, a 6 and a 5; Aline’s two 7s are her IB final exam papers (63/80 and 60/80). I publish the 5 for the same reason I publish the 7s: a record that shows only the best results isn’t a record. Teachers and parents have put the rest in writing: “Well done for your big improvement in the assessment test” (a school’s notice, March 2022); “He has scored 46% which is three times the previous test” (a teacher, February 2023).

IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA), SL & HL
Algebraic fluency, functions, calculus and mathematical justification, with Paper 1 taken without a calculator. At Higher Level: proof, including induction, deeper problem-solving and the unseen questions of Paper 3 (a third paper, HL only).
IB Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (AI), SL & HL
Modelling, statistics and confident use of the graphic display calculator (GDC, the graphing calculator used in the exams). We connect the calculation to the question: which model fits, what it assumes and what the result means.
IB Physics SL & HL: the syllabus first examined in May 2025
All five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; nuclear and quantum physics. Paper 1A (multiple choice), Paper 1B (data-based questions), Paper 2 and the scientific investigation (the internal assessment, IA), with engineering examples that show when an equation applies.
IB Physics HL: what Higher Level adds

Who IB Math and Physics tutoring is for: three starting points

How I teach
How I teach IB Math and Physics: find the step that loses the marks, fix it at the source, prove the fix holds
Engineering trains one habit: when a system fails, find the exact point of failure, fix it at the source, and prove the fix holds. I trained at the Politecnico di Milano — #1 in Italy (QS World University Rankings 2027) and 20th in the world for Engineering & Technology (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026) — and I treat a wrong answer the same way.
Diagnose
Your child solves the question and explains each choice. I find the first step that isn’t reliable — a missing concept, a misread graph, an algebra slip, an assumption that doesn’t hold — because each one needs a different fix.
Re-engineer
I rebuild the explanation around how your child thinks: a diagram, a physical case, a simpler version, an earlier idea — whatever makes the missing link visible.
Verify
Then I change the question and take the support away. If your child can recognise the structure, choose the method and justify the next step alone, it’s fixed. If not, we aren’t done.

Worked solutions and AI can give your child the answer. They can’t show where the reasoning broke, or prove that it no longer does.

How do I choose the best online IB Math or Physics tutor?
Ask for the source of every result, not just the result. Is the student named? Are the school and the exam session stated? Does the student’s own public review back it up? Are predicted and final grades kept apart? Then ask who teaches every lesson, and whether lessons are recorded. My named results pass all four, each with a link.

Are the results on this site all your results?
No — they’re the ones I can prove. Ten years of teaching means far more students than I name. I name a student only when they’ve said yes and I hold the document; everyone else appears anonymously, with the source of each outcome.

Why do you publish your students’ grades at all?
Because you shouldn’t have to take a tutor’s word for it. No one requires it; I do it by choice. Each result carries its source — the student’s own Google review, a document held on file, or both — and the weaker ones stay on the page, because that is how I would want a tutor to show me theirs. The grades are also open data: JSON and CSV, CC BY 4.0.

One-to-one on Zoom with a shared whiteboard; every lesson is recorded, summarised and archived. The whiteboard is Excalidraw, with mathematical and physical diagrams drawn live. How are lesson recordings and AI summaries handled?
Stored in the EU, and never used to train AI. Recordings, transcripts and AI summaries are stored in the EU (Zoom with EU data residency, storage in Ireland), in the student’s own archive, for the engagement plus up to six months. One or two, of 60 or 90 minutes; two is usual for HL or a close exam date. We set the rhythm from the course, the current gaps, the exam date and the practice between sessions.

The first term of DP1, before gaps compound. Both documented cases worked across the two IB DP years, and the public reviews that state a length describe one to four years of lessons. For May exams, starting by January still leaves time for real change.

What language and time zone are the lessons in?
English or Spanish, on Central European Time. I also speak Italian; IB exams are taken in English, French or Spanish. Milan, Zurich, Geneva and Munich share the same clock, so lessons fit straight after school.

IB Math AA or AI?
AA suits algebra- and proof-heavy degrees; AI suits applied, data-led ones. IB Math AA (Analysis and Approaches) rewards algebraic fluency and proof-style reasoning. IB Math AI (Applications and Interpretation) rewards modelling, interpretation, and calculator intelligence. AA HL is typically required for engineering and pure STEM degrees; AI HL suits statistics, finance, and social sciences. I help families decide based on the university courses the student is actually aiming at, using real IB questions to test fit before the school deadline.

IB Physics SL or HL?
HL is SL with extra content and longer papers; the degree your child aims at decides. HL Physics is the SL course with additional content and depth: 240 recommended teaching hours against 150, a longer Paper 1 (two hours against one hour 30) and Paper 2 (two hours 30 against one hour 30), the same weighting for the scientific investigation at both levels, and no separate Paper 3. The right level depends mainly on the published entry requirements of the degree the student is aiming at: some physics and engineering courses ask for HL Physics, others accept SL. Yes, and its very first exam session already has a documented final 7, the highest grade the IB awards. Lessons follow the current guide — its five themes, Paper 1A, Paper 1B, Paper 2 and the scientific investigation. The final 7 in IB Physics SL came in May 2025, after two years of lessons from September 2023 (the IB Physics SL case).

Do you help with the IA and the Extended Essay?
Yes, with guidance only: the work stays the student’s. The IB requires all coursework submitted for assessment to be authentic: based on the student’s own ideas, with the ideas and work of others acknowledged (IB academic integrity). So I teach how each criterion is assessed, help the student test whether their question can be investigated, and explain the mathematics and physics it needs. I never write, edit or correct the work itself.
